Menlen Motorsports
It was back to Saturday racing on Saturday April 19th , Menlen Motorsports made their inaugural race with the new Late Model in the Auto City Super Stock class, at the Auto City Speedway in Flint MI. Practice went well for us as we qualified 9th of 12 cars. I started 2nd in the heat race but getting a poor start put me back to 3rd on the first lap. We would race single file for the remaining 7 laps, resulting in a 3rd place finish for Menlen Motorsports. As the sun set, the speedway began to glow, and the aroma of Torco race fuel filled the air as the commands were given to "start your engines", and get the 2008 racing season under way. We lined up 10th on the grid, because I am a rookie, therefore we have to start at the back of the back for the first three races. The first caution flag fell on the first lap as a couple of cars got to gather on the back straight away. It was a near miss for us but we just made it through the wreckage. We had a short green flag run before the second and last caution flew over the speedway, this time it was for a single car spin in turn 1. Unfortunately we were collected in the mess to avoid the spin, but the damage was minimal and we were able to continue on to a 7th place finish, collecting 5 bonus points for the hard charger award.
I would like to thank Joe DeWitt and the rest of the Auto City Staff on the spectacular facility they have created over the off season. I would also like to thank every one who came out to the track Saturday.
On April 20th Menlen Motorsports attended the monthly Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club meeting in Chesterfield MI., at the Lionel Train Co. I appreciated the opportunity to speak and we can't wait for the club to stop at the Auto City Speedway on May 17th.
